Vacuum-Induced Transparency

Using a cold atomic ensemble strongly coupled to an optical cavity, we demonstrate cavity-vacuum-induced transparency in a resonant medium as well as an accompanying group delay. The delay is predicted to depend upon the photon number in the input pulse. Such nonlinearity opens prospects for advanced quantum devices such as photon Fock state filters.
